Kittens generally refer to kittens under 6 months old. Many people do not have the experience of raising cats when taking a kitten home. Kittens that have just been brought home may cause unnecessary harm due to the negligence of the owner. Today we will take stock of how to feed kittens and what to pay attention to!
How to feed kittens
1. Compared with the food of adult cats, in order to ensure the healthy growth of kittens, the food of kittens needs: higher protein level; higher calories; higher demand for certain nutrients (calcium, phosphorus, etc.). The standard formulation of kitten food is different from that of adult cat food. It is necessary to feed appropriate food according to age.
2. Because kittens are very lively and active, like to explore unfamiliar environments, and their bodies are in the growth and development period, they need food and nutrition with higher calorie density.
3. If you are not short of money, wet food is generally recommended, because wet food has lower carbon water content, higher protein and water content, and is closer to the natural diet of cats. The disadvantage of wet food is that it is expensive. Dry food is more convenient to feed and cheaper, of course, there are many disadvantages, which will not be discussed in detail here. Whether you choose dry food or wet food, you must choose a balanced and comprehensive nutrition.
5. Bottle feeding: Feeding kittens that have not been weaned. Generally speaking, this is because the mother cat has an accident or does not know how to feed when she is a first-time mother. The smaller the kitten, the lower the possibility of artificial feeding, and the task is very difficult. Kittens that have not opened their eyes need to be fed with a bottle every 2-4 hours. Special cat milk powder is best, and never use cow's milk. After feeding, you also need to gently wipe their genital area with a towel to stimulate urination and defecation. This is generally the work of the mother cat, and the kittens cannot urinate and defecate on their own.
6. Ensure room temperature, long-term care and supervision. A few years ago, I picked up a kitten that had not opened its eyes and was abandoned by its mother cat. Unfortunately, it was not fed and survived.
